Katsuhiko Mizuno, “Tsuboniwa of Machiya, Kyoto

A collection of 84 tsuboniwa gardens in Kyoto machiya houses, newly photographed by Katsuhiko Mizuno, one of Kyoto's leading photographers. The book consists of 152 photographs, most of which are never before published, and introduces the charms of machiya houses and tsuboniwa gardens. The book is divided into three chapters: “Gardens of merchants' houses,” “Gardens of ryotei and tea-ceremony houses,” and “Gardens of residences. The tsuboniwa garden is a true luxury of the machiya. This book conveys the aesthetics of tsubo-niwa in perfect harmony with machiya houses.
