Introducing the masterpieces of “Ko-Iga,” pottery coveted by tea masters. The “Ko-Iga” pottery, which is full of mysteries, is discussed. Ko-Iga” pottery was produced from the Momoyama period to the Edo period in the area around Iga City in present-day Mie Prefecture. The highly contorted forms and the scenery created by chance in the kiln are highly valued in the world of the tea ceremony. This book is the official catalog of the exhibition “Ko-Iga: Unprecedented Ceramics,” which will be held at the Goto Museum of Art in Tokyo from October 21 to December 3, 2023. It introduces a number of masterpieces of Ko-Iga, coveted by tea masters since ancient times, and also includes materials excavated from kiln sites to examine the “extraordinary forms” created at a turning point in time.
