UV inkjet printing

UV inkjet printing

Pursuing new forms of expression through art printing. The swissQprint UV inkjet printer.

In addition to printing artwork collections, SunM Color also supports creation of new artworks by various artists. UV printing is a method where a surface is irradiated with UV (ultraviolet) light while printing, thereby instantly hardening the ink so no drying time is necessary. It allows printing on a variety of media, including paper, acrylic, metal sheets, and canvas, and can replicate the three-dimensional character and texture of a material by applying ink in multiple layers. Thanks to UV curing, there is no dulling of ink, and colors are sharp. This enables creation of art prints that genuinely earn the distinction of being called artworks.

Teppei Kaneuji "POOOPOPOO#23,2023"

A printing technique that achieves both texture and presence. Achieved through layering of UV ink.

UV inkjet printing offers a range of creative possibilities depending on how it is used. One example is "Kasane Graphica"—a new technique for imparting greater presence to once-flat prints through layering of ink textures that appeal to the sense of touch as well as vision. And our scope extends beyond just printing images. We explore the myriad possibilities of printing and materials, in areas like photography and digital art. Alongside a dedicated printing director, we provide support in producing artworks with a compelling presence.

Expressive options for surface texture, gloss, and presence

With Kasane Graphica, we fully exploit the features of UV printing and tailor the expression to each artist's vision. Three-dimensionality, texture, gloss control, selection of media for printing... We craft each work while carefully attending to all constituent elements. Our cultural property experts continue to explore even more innovative techniques, such as adding metallic luster by affixing foil on top of a UV print.

Varnish lenticular

Varnish lenticular

This technology, developed by SunM Color, imparts a lenticular effect with UV ink. It enables production of lenticular works in which the picture changes with the viewing angle. Achieving a lenticular effect typically requires either printing onto a dedicated lens sheet or applying a lens sheet onto the printing surface. Varnish lenticular, in contrast, enables spot processing on surfaces like smooth paper, wood panel, and acrylic—providing enhanced freedom in artistic expression.

Water-based pigment inkjet printing

Water-based pigment inkjet printing

Water-based ink with superb color. Ideal for touching up watercolors and ink paintings, great for photo printing.

Water-based pigment inkjet, a technology for printed artworks, enables vivid printing with nuanced gradations by using ink with outstanding color. This is especially well-suited for replicating the close bond between paper and paint/ink in artworks such as watercolor and ink paintings. The ink penetrates slightly into the paper surface, allowing for a natural feeling reminiscent of paints/inks that interact with paper texture. We also recommend water-based pigment inkjet for printing on photo paper, as it offers excellent printability and color quality.
