Long-awaited collection of works by Ushio Fukumoto, a leading contemporary indigo dyeing artist. A world of deep, transparent blue. Ushio Fukumoto has been at the forefront of exploring the world of indigo dyeing, one of the symbols of the Japanese sense of color and beauty. This book is a compilation of works tracing the trajectory of her work over a period of about 40 years, including representative works from all the series of works created by Fukumoto from 1977 to her latest work in 2015. The spine of this book is made of linen dyed by Fukumoto.
Ushiko Fukumoto Born in 1945. Graduated from Kyoto City University of Arts (now Kyoto City University of Arts) with a degree in Western painting. After graduation, she worked at Tatsumura Bijutsu Orimono to study traditional Japanese culture and studied under Heizo Tatsumura II, learning plant dyeing and other techniques. He studied plant dyeing under Heizo Tatsumura II, and this was the beginning of his indigo-dyeing career. After 10 years in the Nitten group, he left the group. Since then, he has been exhibiting his works at solo and special exhibitions in Japan and abroad as a freelance artist. In addition to creating works of art, he also creates kimono obi belts. He has had many solo and group exhibitions in Japan and abroad, including Takashimaya Art Gallery, Art Court Gallery, Tatsuno Museum of Art, Toyoshina Museum of Modern Art, Yamaguchi Prefectural Museum of Art and Urakami Memorial Museum, World Museum Rotterdam (Rotterdam), Loska Museum (Gothenburg), etc.
