Atsushi Okada Photo book “I am

It is said that there may be as many as one million self-injuring youths in Japan today. In this work, photographer Atsushi Okada photographed about 50 young people from all over Japan, many of whom have repeatedly self-injured themselves.

Atsushi Okada Born in Hokkaido in 1979, Okada graduated from the Department of Photography, Faculty of Fine Arts, Osaka University of Arts in 2003, and received his doctorate in Fine Arts from Tokyo Polytechnic University in 2008. In 2010, he published the photo book “ataraxia” (Atsushi Okada, Shigemi Itsuno, Seigensha) and the iPad/iPhone app “ataraxia [photo theater]” (photo by Atsushi Okada, music by Tatsumi Moritoki), (photo: Atsushi Okada, music: Tatsumi Moritoki, development: Excite). In 2011, he published the novel “Gekkogawa no fisheki kenkyukai” (author: Ao Hoshino, photo: Atsushi Okada, Pia). Other photo collections include “Platibe” and “Cord” (2003, both from Window Publishing). He received the Fuji Photo Salon Newcomer Award in 2002 and the 33rd Ihei Kimura Photography Award in 2008.
